Jalena Dixon Elem. Teacher of the Year
Jalena Dixon has been nominated and selected as VFW Elementary Teacher of the year at West Jefferson School District.

Jalena Dixon has dedicated eight years of service to our school community, Jalena's impact has been immeasurable, and her commitment to education and the well-being of our students is nothing short of extraordinary. Jalena's role has often been behind the scenes due to the necessity of confidentiality.

Her commitment to our school's values and willingness to go beyond the call of duty makes her a true hero of our school and exemplifies what a Teacher of the Year represents. Having witnessed Jalena's work firsthand, I can attest to her remarkable ability to connect with and support students, parents, and colleagues in their times of need.

She exhibits great patience and empathy, whether calming down a distressed student or providing comfort and hope to parents struggling to understand their child's disabilities. Her dedication to nurturing the potential of every student is evident in her everyday interactions.

Not only is Jalena an outstanding teacher, but she also serves as a source of inspiration and empowerment for our paraprofessionals. She encourages them to pursue higher education in order to reach their full potential. She fosters a culture of growth and development within our school community.

Jalena's passion extends beyond the classroom, as she demonstrates as a coach for eight years, mentoring and guiding her basketball team to become more than just high school athletes. She encourages them to see beyond where they are, past a game or a title, and focuses on their personal development and self-worth.

In addition to her professional commitments, Jalena is a devoted family member, a daughter, wife, mother of four, and aunt.  Her unwavering support and care extend beyond the school and into the community.

Jalena is known for advocating for students with disabilities and those who may learn at a different pace. In the summer, while most teachers took a break, she was dedicated. She spent it with four students, helping them get job experiences through her involvement with vocational rehabilitation and the work preparation program.  Her influence goes beyond her specific role; it uplifts the entire school and profoundly impacts student success and the community.

Thank you Jalena for your service to our school and community!
