The Idaho Department of Education holds an art contest each year, inviting students to submit artwork for a chance to be featured on its annual Christmas cards. One winner from each grade is selected, and then the top two overall winners have their artwork made into cards. This year, Terreton Elementary student, Aliza Ricks, was the 5th Grade Winner! (The top two overall winners this year were their 3rd & 8th grade winners.)

West Jefferson's Board of Trustees Annual Organization Meeting & Regular Board Meeting - Wednesday, January 14, 2026
Executive Session will begin at 11:30 am, followed by the Annual Organization Meeting at approximately 12:30 pm, and then the Regular Meeting beginning at approximately 1:00 pm. We welcome Emily Belnap of Hamer as the new Trustee for Zone 5. We extend our sincere appreciation to Nedra Perkins for her dedicated service and commitment to our school board. After eight years as a trustee, she did not seek re-election. We wish her the best in her retirement!
Tanis Cherry also ran unopposed and will continue serving as Trustee for Zone 4. Ms. Belnap and Ms. Cherry will be sworn in at the Annual Organization Meeting.

Coach Higgs' Athletic Performance Training for Jan. 12-15, 2026
America turns 250 years old this year, and in celebration, the government has created a civics competition for students. From Feb. 22–28, students can choose to participate in the first round of a national test that ends with the finalist being awarded $150,000. There are additional awards for second and third place as well. The link provided in this email allows students to sign up so they can prepare for the test and access study materials to help them. In addition, I would like to start a study session for students at the school. Next week, I will sign up and help students begin studying and strategizing to prepare for the test. I encourage you to (1) become familiar with the parameters of the test, (2) sign up, and (3) start studying. I hope you will encourage your child to register. The award is impressive, but participation and gaining valuable civic knowledge will be a reward in and of itself. Please consider this opportunity, and if you have additional questions, let me know.
