Fall Sports are starting soon, and the coaches have been posting information on their team social media pages, but we wanted to try to get the basic information out in case there are any who would like to join in! For more details, contact the coaches!

FOR ALL SPORTS: Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day (not carbonated or energy drinks). Bring water and/or electrolyte drinks to practice every day! Sports physicals or an Interim form is required before participation!

HS CROSS COUNTRY - Head Coach: Linda Smuin
- Open Runs are currently happening. Meet at the HS track on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7:00AM
(Sometimes the coaches change the running location, so let them know if you would like to be on their contact list.)
- Aug. 1 at 7:30AM is the No Boots, No Spurs Fun Run, starting at the HS track. Register that morning beginning at 6:30AM. (This Fun Run is open to EVERYONE.)
- Aug. 10 - FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE - 7:00AM (Morning practices until school starts.)
- Motivation Camp information will be given out on the first day of practice.

HS FOOTBALL- Head Coach Cory Hall
- July 21 & 22 Open Field at 7:30PM at the football field
- July 27-31 HS Team Camp from 6:00PM to 8:00PM each night for all athletes wanting to play WJHS football this season!
- Aug. 10 - FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE at 6:00PM. Practice every day Mon-Sat, Aug. 10-15. First football game is a week earlier this year. Practices are mandatory to be eligible to play!

ATTENTION:

Coach Higgs has asked that parents not send elementary-age children to Athletic Performance Training. This is for safety reasons and because space in the weight room is limited.

Athletic Performance Training is open to West Jefferson students entering grades 7–12 this fall, both boys and girls.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

West Jefferson High School history and government teacher Shadrack Gore, a James Madison Fellow, had the opportunity to help support The Presidential 1776 Award: The Ultimate Civics Showdown, a national civics competition celebrating America’s top high school students and their knowledge of the Constitution, America’s founding principles, and U.S. history.

All questions for the U.S. Department of Education contest were written by James Madison Fellows, who also served as judges and proctors for both the regional and national rounds. Mr. Gore helped write questions for the national civics test and later served as both a regional and national judge.

Mr. Gore traveled to Washington, D.C., where he and eight other James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation scholars helped judge the nation’s youth in this exciting civics competition. The televised final showdown includes the championship round at the White House.

Mr. Gore commented on his experience, "Let’s just say the youth of America did not let us down. I am so impressed with their knowledge. The scholarship prizes totaled $250,000! Mario Lopez hosted and he was fantastic!" Mr. Gore also experienced thanks for the many people that helped make this opportunity so amazing for him.

Watch tonight, Tuesday, June 30, on CBS at 6:00 PM (Mountain Time), or stream it on Paramount+ beginning July 1.

We are proud of Mr. Gore for all of his hard work that earned him a front row seat to participate in this exciting national civics event!

Join us Friday, July 3, 2026, at Hamer Elementary School. Dinner will be begin at 6:30 PM and will continue after the parade.

Volunteers from West Jefferson School District will be serving the meal, and all proceeds will help establish the newly announced Panther Pride Activities & Enrichment Fund.

Pulled Pork Sandwich Meals are $8 per person or $30 per family.

District office staff members do not work all day, every day during the summer, so be sure to call before making a special trip to pick up your items! You will most likely catch someone at the district office Monday-Thursday 9:00am to 3:00pm, but many times we are here early or later. You are welcome to stop in if you are close by or driving past!
