Our local VFW recently awarded their 2023 Elementary Educator of the Year Award to Jalena Dixon. Mrs. Dixon has worked in the West Jefferson School District as a Special Education Teacher for 8 years. She has been the District Special Ed. Coordinator for 4 years. Among her many duties, she is responsible for organizing the schedules of all of our Paraprofessionals. Our elementary principal, Kyle Johnson, nominated Mrs. Dixon by writing an essay that he submitted to the VFW. He read this essay during the West Jefferson Veteran's Day Assembly. Mrs. Dixon was awarded a certificate, a bouquet of flowers, and a cash prize. The essay will now move to the district level. We appreciate Mrs. Dixon and the work that she does within our schools to help our students.

WJ Senior, Heidi Lou Van Wagner, is doing a Mini-Cheer Clinic for her Senior Project for 4th-7th graders. Sign-up at the Terreton Elementary Office. Practice begins Monday, Nov. 27th.

We would like to provide you with some essential details regarding the event: Date: Oct 31st Location: ALC Auditorium Time: 10:10 (AM PreK/Kinder and 2:00 PM Classes and all K-6th Grades Schedule: AM PreK and AM Kindergarten students will kick off the festivities at 10:10 AM. PM Kindergarten, Pre-K, and all K-6th Grade students will follow with their parade at 2:00 PM. Costumes: Students can come to school in their Halloween costumes or change into them after lunch. Please ensure that costumes are school-appropriate and safe. We kindly request that props and toy weapons be left at home for the safety of all participants. Masks: Masks may be worn safely during the parade, but they must be stored in backpacks during the morning. This helps us maintain an academically focused environment for the majority of the day. Dressing Up and the Train: Participation in dressing up and the train is entirely optional. If you choose not to have your child participate, please inform your child's teacher in advance. We can provide alternative activities for those who prefer not to participate. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office. Thank you, Mr. Johnson

Veteran's Day Assembly - Thursday, Nov. 9

What is Parent Check-in Day on the WJ School Calendar? Our first "Parent Check-in" is Friday, October 20th. Terreton Campus Teachers will be at school from 8:30am to 12:00pm (break for lunch) and then from 1:00pm to 3:50pm. Hamer Teachers will be at Hamer Elem. from 7:45am to 3:00pm. (Some teachers have scheduled meeting times with parents. If you have a scheduled meeting time, please stick to that schedule.) Parents are invited to communicate with their children's teachers in one way or another during this Check-in Day. Teachers will be available to meet with you in person and/or communicate with you using the WJ App (Rooms), email, etc. We encourage all parents to log in to Otus from home ahead of time to check their children's grades. (If you are unable to log in to your parent account, have your kids log in to their account to show you their grades.) If needed, Mr. Reyna, our Tech Supervisor, can help with Otus or WJ App log-ins. reynaj@wjsd.org Teachers are looking forward to communicating with parents to support our wonderful students. Please don't wait until the end of the Semester to address concerns.

We had some special visitors at Terreton Elementary School on Tuesday. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department came to eat lunch with the students. They visited with the kids, answered lots of questions, and even found the swings! All elementary schools in Jefferson County have been visited by the police officers. Hamer Elementary students enjoyed eating lunch with them last month. Thank you to the Jefferson County Deputies for taking the time out of their busy schedules to come to our schools!

Dance Classes for ages 4-10 taught by Jaylee Ball beginning October 6th. *This is not a school sponsored class, but we were asked to share the information for our elementary students.

Terreton PTO has you covered for dinner this Thursday, September 21st! Be sure to get your meals early because they sell out every year! Pick up your meals at the ALC Building or at the concession stand in the Panther Den while you are cheering for our Volleyball team! WJ Staff gets half-price meals!

Homecoming Week Elementary DRESS-UP DAYS - Let's have some fun!!! 5th/6th Student Counsel has planned some fun dress-up days to celebrate Homecoming next week. These days are PK-6th only; Jr High and HS will be doing their own thing, so watch for communication from them. We will send this home on a flyer later this week but wanted to give everyone a heads-up a little early. 9/18- Mismatched Monday- Wear mismatched clothes, shoes, etc 9/19 - Twinning Tuesday- Find a buddy and make them your twin 9/20 - Wednesday- AMERICAN DAY- Red, White, and Blue 9/21 - Thursday- PANTHER DAY- Show your PANTHER spirit and wear your panther gear / West Jefferson Colors!
