Our High School Business class went on a field trip last Thursday. They traveled to Idaho Falls to speak to representatives at local businesses to learn about the importance of business skills such as Microsoft products: Word, Excel, PPT, and the importance of Adobe products for Graphic creations.
They talked to people in the health industry at Mountain View Hospital. Mr. Brian Ziel, in Public Relations, helped them be able to see and talk with many people, as well as talk about his job and the skills needed. The students were able to hear from a Vice President, a technician, a supply person, and a Nurse Lead. Many of those they spoke to talked about how they went from one position to another and they had to learn new skills, such as a nurse transitioning to head nurse. She talked about having to work with Excel and learn how to handle a budget.
The students also visited a production business at Melaleuca, and they talked about how as you progress in your career, knowing how to communicate in email, letters, and using resources from a computer are very important. Being familiar with computers and the many apps available are important skills for the workforce.
The students talked with a marketing business owner, Ryan Joos, from Vulpine Marketing. They met him at East Idaho Aquarium and were able to go through the aquarium. Mr. Joos does marketing work for the aquarium. He builds websites, creates videos, and works in general advertising for businesses. He spoke about the importance of Adobe and Graphic Design classes.
Our Business Teacher, Mrs. Angela Horikami, added, "Business classes help us be more familiar with computers and help us discover and feel comfortable around technology."

What is Parent Check-in Day on the WJ School Calendar?
Our first "Parent Check-in" is Friday, October 20th. Terreton Campus Teachers will be at school from 8:30am to 12:00pm (break for lunch) and then from 1:00pm to 3:50pm. Hamer Teachers will be at Hamer Elem. from 7:45am to 3:00pm. (Some teachers have scheduled meeting times with parents. If you have a scheduled meeting time, please stick to that schedule.)
Parents are invited to communicate with their children's teachers in one way or another during this Check-in Day. Teachers will be available to meet with you in person and/or communicate with you using the WJ App (Rooms), email, etc. We encourage all parents to log in to Otus from home ahead of time to check their children's grades. (If you are unable to log in to your parent account, have your kids log in to their account to show you their grades.) If needed, Mr. Reyna, our Tech Supervisor, can help with Otus or WJ App log-ins. reynaj@wjsd.org
Teachers are looking forward to communicating with parents to support our wonderful students. Please don't wait until the end of the Semester to address concerns.

Congratulations to CJ Day, our Female Youth Open Western National Shooter of the Year! CJ said that when she picked up her first target bow three years ago, she never looked back. When she got her first bow, she looked around the shop at the posters on the wall of various companies' pro staff shooters, which at that time seemed larger than life. She promised herself that one day it would be her on one of those posters. She said she works hard every single day to make that dream come true. CJ currently shoots a PSE Archery Supra Focus with an Axcel Achieve Sight and Shrewd Scope, Hamskea Rest, T.R.U. Ball HBC Release, Beestinger Stabilizer, and Victory arrows.
